Ecological and Renewable
Wool felt is both ecologically and animal friendly. It is a natural and sustainable resource.
Wool Felt is highly resilient, retaining its strength and unique properties for decades. Therefore it will not pill and is highly durable after many years of use.
The outer layer of the wool fiber has a thin protective wax-like film, which acts as a raincoat, enabling wool to shed droplets of liquids without wetting the fabric. Spill a liquid on a horizontal wool surface and you have time to mop it up before it stains the fabric.
Because wool contains moisture in each fiber, it resists flame without chemical treatment. Instead of burning freely when touched by flame, wool chars and stops burning when it is removed from the source of fire. Wool is self-extinguishing. It will not support combustion; this is why wool blankets are recommended for use in extinguishing small fires.
Wool fibers have a high concentration of fatty acids which keeps wool fabric from mildewing or retaining odours.
Wool felt is hypoallergenic. Since wool is composed of the same proteins as human hair and fingernails it is rare that someone has an allergy to wool. Because wool is both slow to absorb moisture and is made from interlocked fibers that allow air flow, dust mites avoid wool.
In addition, the wool felt that is used is Oeko-Tex 100 or EN71 certified so that the felt is safe for children.
